New ETA Rules for European citizens travelling to the UK

As of April 2, 2025, European citizens, including lorry drivers, will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before travelling to the UK. This new requirement is part of the UK government's efforts to enhance border security and streamline the entry process for visitors.

What is an ETA?

An ETA is a digital permission to travel to the UK. It is not a visa, but it is required for all visa-exempt travellers, including those from the EU, who plan to visit the UK for short stays. The application process is straightforward and can be completed online or via the UK ETA app.

Impact on freight and logistics

We understand that this new requirement may raise concerns about potential delays in freight and logistics operations between the Netherlands and the UK. However, we want to reassure our customers and partners that we have taken all necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition.

Lorry drivers' ETA compliance

All our lorry drivers have been informed about the new ETA requirement and have been assisted in obtaining their ETAs well in advance. This proactive approach ensures that there will be no disruptions or delays in our freight services.
